How Often Should I Cut My Hair?
The average person should get their haircut anywhere from every 6-12 weeks, depending on their hair length and goals. Hair grows approximately ½ inch every month, so the key to your cuts is in knowing what you wish to accomplish.
For short hair/pixie cuts: If you have short hair, you can probably tell when your hair is due for a cut—the style is harder to create and maintain and you might get that “bushy” feeling. To maintain a short haircut, stylists recommend a cut every 4-8 weeks to keep the style and shape maintained.
For short/medium hair that you are trying to grow out: Be patient! Many people get sick of the “awkward” phases that short haircuts go through as they are being grown out and end up cutting their hair back to a shorter style. To grow out a short or medium style, get a cut every 8-12 weeks and have your stylist slightly shape your hair to help those awkward phases become… well… less awkward.
For long hair: Long hair is literally old, making it more prone to breakage and split ends. To maintain long hair, stylists recommend cutting ¼ of an inch every 8-12 weeks (more or less depending on how damaged your hair is.)
