Easy Halloween Makeup
Can’t figure out what to wear to go trick or treating with your loved ones this year or to the Halloween party this weekend? You don’t always have to be in full costume mode to make your appearance “spook-tacular.” Here are some ideas we found that are easy enough to replicate on yourself for the upcoming festivities. We’ve put them in the order of simplest to most complex depending on how much time you wish to spend in prep.
The first idea is classic/simple/creepy and doesn’t require much else besides a small amount of fake blood (available at most local drug stores or Halloween stores) and makeup you probably already have at home. Use the lightest shade of foundation you own and add nothing on top of it. Do not define your brows or add any color to your cheeks or your eyelids. Lashes may be worn by themselves, but let the only pop of makeup you add to your face be blood red lips and a bloody tear falling from the corner of one of your eyelids. You can wear this look with just a regular outfit (jeans and a top) or a wrinkled outfit for a more festive look. Sometimes it’s the simplest costumes that have the strongest effect.
Next up is one of the stitched “doll” looks. To re-create this look, you’ll need a black eyeliner pencil, a black and taupe (or silver) eyeshadow, and a clear gloss. Draw a freeform shape from the center of the eye up to the forehead and then again below as shown in the picture. You can color this in with the eye pencil and then smudge over to “fill in the blanks” with the shadow. Brows should be darkened with the same pencil. Take the alternate shadow color (taupe, silver, or whatever you have chosen) and fill in the rest of the area up to the brow on the eye with the design and all over the lid on the eye without. Apply mascara.
Next, to re-create the lips, you’ll want to extend lines out from the corners of your mouth and draw the “stitches” through each side. Shade only the outer corners of both top and bottom lips, leaving the middle as it is naturally. Top with a clear gloss to complete the look. You can pair this with a babydoll style dress and a matching bow for your hair.
Next up is more of the undead/mental patient/crazy lady type makeup look. For this look to last through an entire evening, using a facepaint IS recommended, but you could probably pull off a similar (though not as convincing) look with a black eye pencil and shadow. This model is wearing a white matte facepaint blending thoroughly all over her face and lips. You’re not going for the “mime” look, but rather pasty-pale-white, so go easy on the application of the white when you get started. (Remember you can always add more!)
There is no rhyme or reason to the eye makeup application. If you’ve got black facepaint, start by filling in almost up to the brow and then down below to create the blacked out eye. Do not worry about try to make the edges smooth or blended or try to make the black around both eyes the same size. The look is actually creepier when the makeup is NOT blended and the black around each eye is two different sizes. Streak a black tear stream down both sides of the face. Hair should be worn, frizzy, tangled, and messy complemented by an all white outfit. You can accessorize with a creepy doll and giant sewing needle if you really want to go the extra mile.
The final idea we’ll share with you today is the most common. It requires a few more supplies than you have already at home, but is still easy to pull off with little to no makeup application knowledge. For this zombie look you will need to purchase some fake scabs and fake blood from a local drugstore or Halloween store. Use the glue provided with the fake abrasions to apply them; and then, use fake blood around each one. Grab a junky outfit from your local goodwill and smear it with the fake blood. You can also tear up your outfit for a more severe look.
