Choose the Best Bangs for Your Face Shape
It’s often times a struggle to decide what sort of haircut you might want, much less to try to hone in on the “right” bangs for your face shape. That’s why we thought we’d add this handy guide to our site from our resident stylist to help guide you through that decision!
Bangs for square shaped faces: People with square shape faces usually have prominent angular features. The jawline is as wide as the cheekbones. The goal is to soften any hard edges and angles of the face. The best bangs are long, side-swept bangs. The shortest part of the bangs graze the brows and blend down into the rest of the hair.
For a full fringe, the hair must be thick enough. If the hair in the fringe area is too thin, it can throw off the balance of the face. Cut the bangs dry to avoid shrinkage, causing the bangs to be too short. The fringe should end just below the brows with loner pieces on the side.
Bangs for round shaped faces: Round shape faces are soft and edgeless. The goal is to create some angles to give the illusion that the face is longer and more angular. Side-swept bangs create a soft but edgy look. Short, wispy bangs are not good for this facial shape, this creates too much softness.
Round facial shapes should typically avoid blunt cut bangs. The only way to create the perfect blunt cut bangs are shorter in the middle and longer on the sides. They should be long enough to curve with the eyebrows. Blunt bangs add angles to the face and the haircut.
Bangs for heart shaped faces: With a heart shape face, the forehead is wider than the jawline and the chin comes to a point. The goal to correct this face shape is to balance out the bottom of the face with the top and downplay a pointed chin. Long side-swept bangs or an off centered part with bangs that are as long as the jaw line will focus the eyes toward the bottom of the face.
Bangs for oval shaped faces: An oval shaped face is the “coveted” face shape. This is the most common facial shape. An oval face can wear any hairstyle.
