How to Do A Smokey Eye With Makeup Brushes
A great, dramatic smokey eye is always fun look to sport. And.. good news! There are a number of ways you can do one on your own eyes. Eyeshadow applicators (yawn) and even fingers (eew) can be used to grab this look; but more MUA’s today are utilizing either great sponges or great brushes to achieve their flawless finished looks.
Today’s topic of discussion highlights using brushes. (Stay tuned for a sponge tutorial. :)) You’ll want to have on hand a makeup brush set with at least 3 brushes; one brush to apply the eye shadow over the entire lid (dense bristles), one brush for blending (little more fluffy than the first brush) and one angled brush to get into the crease or a specific area. If the brush set you purchase has more than these brushes, that’s fine too–the more brushes you have, the more you can experiment with!
First start out with a light color and brush number one. Apply the light color on the entire lid up to the brow bone. With the same brush, choose a medium shade color and apply this from the crease down. With the angled brush (brush three), apply a dark shade of color to half of the crease and the corner of the eye. Now with the blending brush (brush two), sweep in a back in fourth motion and blend the shadow to get rid of any harsh lines. Lastly, apply eyeliner. This may be done with a brush as well, but the proper liner should be used. You can purchase liquid liner at the store that requires brush application if you’ve got a steady hand or opt to those with a marker tip for those who don’t. (And don’t feel bad, that’s us too! – Here’s a quick tip though – line the lid with a pencil first to serve as a guide for the liquid!)
Viola! You now have the perfect smokey eye! There are many women that use more than the three brushes and some use less. What really matters is that you are comfortable using them and you are satisfied with the results. Remember to cleanse your makeup brushes regularly to avoid any color mixing and also so that no bacteria grows!
Thanks for the tips, will have to give it a try.
Great tip! I am going to try this today!!
