How To Make Your Makeup Stay Put!
Learning how to apply your makeup perfectly is one thing, but applying makeup to make it last for more than ten minutes is another. To have the best of both worlds, incorporating primer and waterproof/sweat proof makeup will ensure long lasting makeup. By a few simple steps, long lasting makeup can be achieved.
Throughout the day, we as women literally “face” many issues with makeup. The most common problem with makeup is sweat. Sweating not only ruins your makeup, but makes your face shiny. Having a “natural glow” is what most women aim for when applying makeup, but sometimes sweat can create too much of a “glow”.
Applying primer is a huge step in any makeup application. Primer is just what it sounds like, it is a “primer” or barrier between your skin and your makeup, creating an extra “layer” so the makeup can’t rub or wear off as easily. Some people, like myself use a primer and a solution like a toner called “skin prep pro.” I apply this before my primer. This solution is also referred to as “no sweat solution.” This makes a noticeable difference with how long my makeup lasts during the day. I no longer have to reapply my makeup half way through my day like I usually would. Another option would be to buy waterproof makeup. That sounds strange especially for foundation, but it’s out there. When looking for makeup, check the label, if it says “12 hour” or “24 hour” chances are, it has ingredients in the formulation that are water-proof, sweat-proof, etc. This is not only for foundation, but great for eye shadow too. If you tend to get really shiny during the day, carry around compact powder to dab on your shiny spots.
For women that have problems with choosing the right primer and foundation, be sure you fully understand your skin type. If you have dry skin, cream based foundation works wonders (usually feels like mousse.) Those with dry skin should stay away from powder foundation, the lose powder tends to stick in all the dry cracks, which never looks good. For normal skin, you get to choose whatever you like! This skin type can handle pretty much any makeup whether it’s cream, liquid or powder. Oily skin types should stay away from cream based foundation. Cream foundation is too heavy and hydrating for oily skin. Powders work great for oily skin, the powder soaks up the oil right away and lasts for most of the day, maybe some touch ups here and there.
In your makeup regimen, if using a sweat proof solution, use this before the primer. If using just a primer, apply after toner and right before foundation application. Mainly with the use of primer and foundations formulated for long lasting wear, your makeup should stay put. Always remember to carry a little powder or some extra foundation just in case you need a little bit of a touch up; other than that your makeup will stay put all day.
Thanks for the great tips!!!
I have tried Primer before but didn’t really “Love” it. I will have to give it another whirl. Thanks!!
I never really realized that using a primer would help my eye shadow stay on…. now I use it all the time!!
